Summer Projects is Cru’s version of a mission trip. It’s an amazing experience for anyone who participates. You focus on discipleship and evangelism for 2-16 weeks over a course of the summer and make wonderful new friends along the way. In 2010, I put my application in to be part of the Summer Project Marketing Team and was accepted, flown down the Campus Crusade for Christ’s headquarters, and participated in an intensive two-day marketing meeting. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. I worked alongside a wonderful designer and began developing a revolutionary new site with functionality never before used on a Summer Project website.
We created the navigation of the website around the steps that a student would go through in order to make a decision to go. Along the way, the student could view hundreds of projects through the use of Google Maps API, watch and read about other students that have gone before them, and keep track of their support raising through a new system called Ministry Partner Development. Since then, other designers and developers have taken the groundwork and improved upon it. Check out what they’ve done this year by visiting GoSummerProject.com.
