I love learning and adapting my skills
Currently, I lead the web efforts for the College of Agriculture and Purdue Extension at Purdue University, including content strategy, search engine optimization, web accessibility, and user experience. I have experience with numerous redesigns for the College and Extension using SharePoint as our Content Management System. Currently, Purdue Agriculture is looking at moving from SharePoint as our public-facing CMS to Drupal so I am currently learning module development and theme development for Drupal.
Not only am I good at focusing at the task at hand, I also lead my team into the future. At Purdue, I conceived, promoted, and helped develop a content repository system that streamlines production of articles across more than 100 different sites. This solves problems we have with consistency, migration, user experience, sustainability, and flexibility throughout the College of Agriculture and Extension. In addition, I introduced SCRUM Agile methodology to my team and it has been met with raving reviews. I was awarded Purdue University’s Bravo award for the direction and implementation in this new methodology.
Of much more worth than what I know, is my willingness and ability to adapt and learn new tools and skills. On my own, I have studied User Experience and Usability and have been able to implement this into our product lifecycle at Purdue as well. I’ve been trained by the world-leading company in UX – Nielsen Norman Group – and have received a certification from them in the field of User Experience.
I’m a Christian
My faith has the biggest impact in my life. I became a Christian in fifth grade and I have never looked back. Since then, I’ve become obsessed with Christian theology and how it applies to my own life. I’m a firm believer that good theology matters. During college, I was heavily involved with Cru (formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ) and now I attend City of God Church in Lafayette. I’m not perfect and I’ll never claim to be (at least seriously, see “I’m funny”), but I try to represent Christ in my daily life with both my words and actions. My favorite Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 10:31
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
I love officiating football
Since 2011, I’ve been a football official for the Indiana High School Athletic Association and have been a member of the Western Indiana Football Officials Association and Indiana Football Officials Association. I love interacting with the students, coaches, and fans at the games and constantly strive to become a better official with every game.
I’m active in the design community
I’m heavily involved in design and development communities including moderating reddit’s web design community, web developer community, design community, and user experience community consisting of over 325,000 subscribers.
